The gracious slog

There's a club near where I live named Sisyphus. Like most clubs in Berlin, it's a place where one can shoot for the heights of hedonism for one night, a day, maybe even two if you're very experienced.

It's always struck me as curious why such a place would be named after a figure in Greek mythology cursed push a boulder forever up a mountain. Doesn't sound very hedonistic to me. But over time, the name made more sense. It's not about what happens in the club, what happens when we get our dues and bask in attention. It's not about what happens in our fantasy world.

The Sisyphean effort comes from our actions around the pleasure; our actions that ensure the pleasure. Every bit of work we put into our dreams, every redraft, every query, every rejection; it's all part of the Sisyphean push.

I'm not talking about clubs anymore.

So here's my blog, a place where I can log my progress both real and perceived. Here I will be linking to manuscripts and shorts, welcoming feedback and reader support, and hell, I'll be sharing any resources I think might be useful to any other writers out there.

I will also be posting any artwork pertaining to the worlds of Empress Witch, Psychomp Blues and Feral Stone. All those works are still reaching out for representation, but that's not the point of this blog. The point is the effort. The push to make dreams concrete. The Sisyphean drive to envision the top of the hill even if it may never come.

I'm Petra Brigan, and I make up fake things that are made up and fake. And I love it.
