The Gelatine Wall

Just me checking in. It’s been an interesting start to the year. In some ways, this is the most momentum I’ve had as a writer. I’ve been knocking together the first draft of Psychopomp Blues, keeping up what I would like to think is a healthy Letterboxed account, and most exciting of all is my freelance work for ExBerliner, an English-language magazine here in my home city.

In other, more literal ways, 2024 seems to be front-loaded with hurdles. After a long time being considered by an agent, Empress Witch still isn’t off the ground. The fabled subjectivity of the publishing industry is subjecting me to the utmost scepticism when it comes to this story and world, but I’m not letting that get me down.

Despite Empress Witch being conceptually almost a decade old at this point, it’s still a story I want to cling to, and there are plenty of elements that I still think I can improve on before I get this thing to launch.

So that’s where Petra Brigan is in 2024. Not so much running up against a brick as a thick gelatinous wall; one that’s just permeable enough to reach in and grab select treats from.

So keep an ear out for some potential articles in print media, Psychopomp Blues taking place, and some much-needed rewrites.

Ciao
